Hello, I have a pre war Lionel Haiwatha set in original, played with condition. It definitely needs restoration. It was my father's and I don't know anything about trains. There is a 250-E engine, and Milwaukee Road cars # 82, 83 and 84 there is also another car..I think a tender. There is also track and a whistle controller and 100 watt train master transformer. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me figure out what this might be worth and the best thing to do with it. Thank you!

Hi would like to talk about buying the set if you can email me. My email is in my profile
do you have any pictures thanks Bill
It is troubling that this is turning into an auction regardless of how this is presented. Rules are that items need a price! When does the bidding start.
Naming a price for me would be pulling a number out of thin air. I was hoping for a discussion that would be educational and informative, so I could tell low ball offers from fair ones if and when I sell it. Maybe I posted this in the wrong Forum, if so, I'm sorry.
b,
I looked it up in the greenberg"s price guide for you
250e good-400 +
82 good-230+
83 good -140+
84 good -205+
hope it helps if you would like more information my email is wmclimans@sbcglobal.net
Hello B,
I would suggest listing your trains for sale on eBay under Lionel O Gauge Pre World War 2 trains.
I would put a starting opening bid price of $9.99 with no reserve & let the marketplace determine the true & fair selling price. That is one way of staying clear of low ball offers, particularly since you are not familiar with the items you are selling.
Keep in mind that many eBay buyers stay away from auctions with a high opening bid price & also auctions with a reserve price; that is one with a minimum acceptable sale price for the seller.
Include MANY good clear pictures from every angle for each piece so that you can come as close as possible to "putting the item into the prospective buyers hands" for consideration.
You can also search closed past eBay auctions for similar items to get a feel for what the market is for your trains. Keep in mind that to a collector CONDITION is everything.
And lastly, I would list it for sale sometime after the middle of September. Many train operators & collectors participate in other activities during the warm months of the year thereby limiting your exposure to the prospective buying market by trying to sell during the sumer months. Many people are also away on vacation; so a good starting date would be AFTER the middle of September.
I hope you find these suggestions helpful & wish you good luck in your endeavor.
Regards,
Ken
I have appraised trains for many years and can give you some sound advise. You do not have an email address in your profile. Email me at jimjerrielaw@tds.net and I can give you some ideas on determining the value and how best to sell it,
