Price of Track

That is pricey. Holiday item mark-ups are ridiculous; after the holiday they will sell at 75% off or more. The stores love the shoppers that buy on impulse and "gotta have it"? 

I've stopped in a couple of stores that sell Dept 56. One sells for only retail and the other discounts retired items. I bought a lighting set from the full retail store because the item had been sitting around for several years and was now discounted because of inflation!

The best deals that I got came from Craigslist and an estate sale.

I thought that Lionel's Fastrac was expensive at $5.00 for a short almost two inch section.

Their volume is probably low, which tends to increase unit price.

    What you do is go to the small trains shows, and purchase FasTrack when someone is selling it off, at a good low price.   Unless you absolutely have to purchase new, there are much better ways to pick up FasTrack in bulk, including the custom pieces.  I have lots of FasTrack because I purchase it in this manner, and seldom do I ever get a piece of bad FasTrack.

I appreciate the advice about buying Fastrac but will most likely apply it to buying other style of tubular track. I like tubular track the best, even after using Fastrac for a few months on a small layout.

I have a hard time finding used Fastrack anywhere. That last 3 train shows I've been to here in Florida produced not a single track. The prices that all the manufactures of roadbed track ask are highway robbery if you ask me. And the price of the remote switches! Incredible. Needless to say most of my layout is mainly tubular. I use 027-042 and 027-054 for my curves and new, that's not cheap either and is very hard to find used at a good price. It is what is is, I reckon.

I take it PaulP, that this is non-standard sized track (not Ogauge, G, HO sized)?
