Well, it is a bit more complicated than that. As part of the "Dash 2" locomotive line, there was an increased effort to reduce noise emissions as well as increase fuel economy. Thus, the "Dash 2" units were equipped with "Q Series" quiet cooling fans and exhaust silencers. 

 

So,,,,,,the previous issue 40/45 series units sounded "different", i.e. louder, than the 40-2/45-2 series units. So to answer the original poster's question, the answer depends on whether he REALLY means an "SD45T" model unit, or an SD45T-2 model unit?
