When were the last railroad cars dedicated to shipping prisoners used? Are any of them preserved?

I don't think there were any cars built specifically for prisoners. In the US, POWs from Germany and Italy were taken to camps in regular service or extra passenger trains using whatever equipment was available. Many times American troops would get off the trains and onto ships, their seats taken for the trip to the interior by Germans on their way to farm work for the war's duration.
in Germany, the cars used for Hitler's "final solution" were just regular boxcars and cattle cars, same with the Soviet Union. Many of these were used in regular service after the war as well, and there are some preserved at some of the concentration camp memorials around Europe.
With incarceration in mind, Cook County No. One ( pictured below ) was dedicated to transferring psychiatric patients from Chicago to the far Southern suburbs on the Chicago and Interurban Railroad. probably the only operation of it's type. It ran off a spur on the grounds and went along city streets until reaching the private right of way in Crete, Illinois. A pretty grim operation in it's own right.

That's a neat 'Jail Box!'
Ralph
I think the jail cars are for either three things, First, The zombie attack that will happen when Second, the asteroid hits the earth and all **** breaks out. And third and most likely when MTH buys out Lionel!
