Monk,
There aren't any at present.
According to MTH, even if they were working on them, the soonest they could be available would be mid to late 2014.
I don't think I'll hold off any upgrade plans for the PS/3 kit.
I hear that John.
I actually have a Steam Kit I'm holding.
I was going to upgrade my first MTH engine but after getting my Imperial Big Boy I look at the old starter set engine and don't see what I want now.
So I'm hoping to actually have money when an old PS-1 Premier steam engine comes along to buy and upgrade.
Ive got a few PS-2 kits on the shelf for a rainy day but I usually try to avoid upgrading locos for the simply reason that they take forever to do
Gee Matt, what else are you going to do with your time.
Well, this weeks ADD project is getting my dads railroad photos all digitized. I'm 40 hours of scanning in and only have about 700 photos done. Im gonna be scanning forever
If he only has 750, you're almost done. OTOH, if he has 7500, you have a LONG way to go.
I think he has about 3000 in 120mm format and then I'm on to the 35mm. I'm on a little hiatus form working on the layout and I'm almost caught up on my backlog of repairs and upgrades for my uncle. I've got one PS-2 upgraded loco that just doesnt seem to work no matter what I do so that's my last one and I hope to not do them anymore. I may have to gut the upgrade and completely start over
I have a 35mm slide scanner that I've started on our family pictures, but it's been in limbo for some time. I don't even want to think how many I have left to do!
I haven't had any upgrades that I couldn't beat into submission, that would annoy me to no end if that happened! My biggest issue with upgrades usually turns out to be mechanical issues that need to be resolved, fitting the tether and replacement smoke unit for steamers sometimes takes some metal work. Also, in smaller units, fitting the stuff in sometimes is a challenge.
This one was the first one I did in an Premier Yellowstone and it worked for a minute then I lost sound, I put a new board in it then I lost motor function due to a bent pin in the tender plug. Now I've got some weird stuff going on with it and I cant seem to nail down why I've recurring issues. I cant find any shorts or anywhere on the loco so im just not sure.
I think I'd test the boards in another locomotive since this one has had issues with two boards. Without a very close examination of the wiring and components like the motors, I don't think I'd give it another board to eat!
Yup, boards arent cheap. I should have some PS2 test fixtures here any day now. Makes testing boards a snap.
How close is the engine tether pcb to any part of the frame or shell. Can be an issue when shell is on, or tether plugged in causing intermittent ground. Your first one probably needs the audio amp replaced if a reset did not clear the faulty.
