electroliner,

Purchase Barry's book, take time to sit down and read it, his explanations of everything you need to run DCS are fully explained in every day wording, that everyone can understand and put into use.  Even old guys like me from the late 40's and early 50's love this book, I would have killed for this DCS guide book years ago, when I 1st started using DCS.  Everyone of us DCS runners owes Barry big time, for taking time to put his engineering knowledge into a working publication.  All thou I know he will never really get rich from his efforts, I hope he will continue to interface with us and share his engineering experience with DCS.  Our Train Hobby needs more people like him, the future of our Train Hobby is systems like DCS and TMCC and the people who engineer and explain the technology.  Now that Barry has a fantastic book, I wish he would consider producing a Advanced Companion Video Guide for DCS layouts.

Don't you throw that Z4K Transformer at me Barry, it costs way to much money.

I guess I have been spoiled by the DCS members at York that did my previous upgrades. If I find a REV. L set before York I will purchase it & ask the DCS group to upgrade it. I do have Legacy & I did the upgrade, but only AFTER Marty E came out with the video.

Try ironhorse hobbies on ebay, thats where i got mine a few week ago. 275.00 and free shipping. It is the rev-L version

I've got to get a workable replacement for this one remote that just won't get with the program.  Might as well get the set as I'll need a third TIU for the locomotive facility/upper level track sooner or later, to keep within "the plan".

Hopefully can just power the new TIU splitting some out put from one of the existing Z4000s which have some capacity to spare at this point, as I've done with a TIU (bridged from one output on the Z4000 to a fixed and var input to share the current.)

Is there any reason the Rev L TIU should be ahead or behind the other two (i.e., TIU 1 vs TIU 3); they will all be in Supermode ...

Absolutely none, as long as all devices are running the same DCS version, which they most certainly can.

John,

Only because many dealers sell old/new stock and this issue could, potentially, still surface. Further, when a TIU is resold as used, there's no guarantee that the original owner found and corrected this issue.

Its a public service type of thread and therefore does no harm by staying a featured topic, much like the threads on the TMCC/Legacy Forum that address Legacy System Utility 1.0 or the Legacy Operation DVD.

MTH's plans for a new DCS Remote are not, as far as I know, set in anything resembling concrete. What I know at present regarding future hardware (or pseudo hardware) is the following:

  • There is little, if any, work being done at this time on a new DCS Remote, pending release of the DCS app by Hikel O Gauge. My understanding is that the initial, free, limited capability app should arrive this Spring, with a full-featured app sometime later
  • MTH has plans for a new TIU that will have WiFi capability. The new TIU is, I believe, scheduled for some time in 2014.

Barry,

This bums me out I really thought we would see a new hand held remote control unit

sometime around the beginning of this year, even if I had to purchase a new TIU with it.  I really do believe MTH is missing the boat on this one, I was really looking forward to a better designed slightly bigger, rechargable unit, with a different kind of thumb wheel and immediate one step switch control.  I really do not want to invest in another old hand held remote control unit, looks like I will eventually need to have my old one repaired, being an engineer myself I hate faulty design engineering, that sets up reoccuring problems, this thumb wheel engineering was under designed form the get go, and needs to be redesigned badly, I have been patiently waiting, to purchase an up graded design, for a long time now.
