I recently installed DCS and successfully added all but 1 loco to my system (remote).  I have a RailKing Big Boy that was converted from PS to PS 2 that immediately starts up in conventional mode as soon as I apply power to the track via Z4000. When I try to add the loco I get the error message No Engine Found.  My other converted locos have been added without any problems.  I have tried throttling up quickly as well as slowly with no difference in results.  Any ideas?

DCS must have found the engine at one time to get the sound file loaded... There's a possibility  of an ID conflict   with a engine that perhaps has the same ID number....  Hope you're using a programming track or equivalent. ( a track to  add engines with no other engine  on the layout receiving power)

Having the engine start up in conventional is not good though... Find a track with a perfect dcs signal (10) and take the other engines off the track or park them on dead tracks. Try adding again.

RED to center rail from TIU output.

In this case since it starts up immediately, the engine is not seeing the watch dog.  You can move to a single short test track to see if it will load.  If not, on the test track reverse black and red output from tiu to track.  See if it loads now?  If so, internal AC wiring is swapped inside engine.

If still no go, I think the Power Supply board on the PS-2 3V board (assumption it is PS-2 3V upgrade) is damaged and needs repair replacement.   G

Thanks for the help. I wired up a 40 inch section of track for an installation track and the Big Boy loaded right in. Unrelated operational problems immediately appeared - herky jerky, noisy, makes me think several things inside are binding. I suspect less than a first rate upgrade was done. I'll be looking for a repair tech as soon as I'm finished with this DCS installation.

My RailKing Big Boy problem has been solved, thanks to GREGG and GGG.  The final loco remaining to be added into the remote is a Premier PRR 0-6-0 that is AC/DC, 2rail/3rail.  It has not been run in about 2 years and I don't recall it ever being run in DCS mode.  When I first tried to load it into my remote I got the msg "no engine to add" and the loco remained dead on the installation track.  I then recharged the battery, using my MTH charger, and attempted to add it again.  As soon as I applied power to the track, the engine started up in conventional mode with all lights, sounds, etc. operating.  I can also operate the couplers, etc. using the bell and whistle buttons on my Z4000.  I tried doing a feature reset. I've also tried applying full power as well as 18 volts.

Anyone have any ideas?
