Have gone to a train store twice to reset an MTH aerotrain proto sound 2 to factory settings to try to get it running with an MTH remote commander.   train will run perfectly in conventional mode with an MTH Z transformer.   At the store the train runs under DCS after factory reset.   When I hook up to the remote commander nothing happens despite 19 volts at the track.  not even start up sounds.  seem to hear a faint click when I turn on the power but that is it.  When I hook up conventional the startup train sounds are active.   Tried the remote commander hooked up in passive mode and get startup train sounds but no response to the remote.   Remote commander works with another proto sound 2 train I have so no issue there.    Is the problem that they aren't correctly resetting to factory or something wrong in the train electronics.

On an unrelated note I finally finished wiring power to the track on my layout with 4 lines running of a ZW-L with external additional 10 amp circuit breakers and TVS to run multiple  legacy and TMCC trains per line. Turning my attention to getting the accessories running.   Will use 4 channels from a ZW I have to run four grouped power districts.    One for switches; one for lionel action accessories (dinner, car wash,  gas station, loading platform, saw mill, barrel loader); one for lionel gate crossings and flashing lights and gatemen;  and  one for building and street lights mostly incandescent (20 or so buildings and multipe street lamps).   Will measure the amp load for each device to try to determing the appropraite circuit breaker amps.   I know it all depends on the AMP load in each district but was curious what amp circuit breakers people generally use for their accessory layouts.

Thanks in advance for you kind consideration of this request.

They did have DCS and the train did run normally using DCS at the store.  With 19 volts going to the track in conventional and with the remote commander why don't the startup sound at least work.   They do with the remote commander in passive mode but not when power is routed through the remote commander even though the power is making it to the track.  A bit confusing,   The second time I went to the store I made sure they were doing the factory reset and not the feature reset using their DCS.

Correct, since they added it to DCS and ran it, they changed the address to whatever free address on their DCS system (anything but obviously not #1). Then the reset process or lack of the right reset failed miserably and left the engine with an ID of not #1.

Since the remote commander can ONLY send to address 1, and your engine is on another address it will never respond to a DCS signal from the remote commander. Only if you follow a proper reset and ensure 100% the engine is truly reset- then it will respond.

Thanks for the replies.   Appreciate your help.   Will try a third time and make sure they do the immediate shut off without testing on DCS.   That may have been the issue.  They tested the train after the reset to make sure it was working before we tried the remote commander.   I take the remote commander with me to the store.   Can we try to see if the reset works right away or is there a waiting period to allow electrical discharge as they suggested at the store when their reset didn't work.   I live in New Hope so if this doesn't work I will drive over to Hennings.

Also thanks for the post about the wego connectors.   would have been a lot more difficult to wire my new layout without them.

just got back from Hennings.   reset properly as recommended this time.   works great.   also found out the "lightly used" description of the locomotive I had bought second hand online had over 2K hours of run time when they logged it into the DCS system to do the reset!!!! Guess I am past the break in phase. Time for some maintenance and an internal TVS.
