I have a ETS 040 (Gloria) small steam loco with tender and there seems to be a problem running the Loco on Fastrack.

I stops and goes as if it is loosing connection with the voltage.
Track is out of the box/new and my prewar items have no problems.
Is this a common problem, would tubular track help?
The loco's center rail pick up is touch the track and does looks clean.
Would wiping down the wheels, center pickup and Rails with Alcohol help?
May need some for myself, but a different brand (had to say it before someone else does)

I run an ETS Set under our Christmas Tree and I wound up bending the pickup slides down to provide more pressure on the track.

Tried that a bit, maybe not enough. Last year it had the problem, without the tender and when the tender was on it worked fine. will try tonight and will also clean everything off with the alcahole. If this works, I will post my findings.

The other problem that I had was with the electric e unit. It seems that the Lionel transformer that Im using does not completely go to zero volts when the throttle is turned down and this residual voltage doe not cause the unit to go into reverse. If i throttle down short the track out temporarily, it will go into reverse.
Using a Lionel LNL14198 80 watt CW transformer, will try a post war trans former to see if this helps.

Not sure exactly where I saw it, but my recollection is that it was posted somewhere that the CW-80 and that "family" of Lionel transformers does not go all the way to zero volts even when the throttle is all the way down.

I have another CW-80 and some other Postwar Lionel transformers. I will measure them tonight with the throttle off and post it tomorrow.

Thanks.

Ron,

Steve is correct, the newer FasTrack quality control is not quite what the original FasTrack was, and there have been problems with the join pins touching incorrectly, which can cause signal problems.  If this is what your layout is doing, simply take the Track apart and bend the join pins so they contact each other better, then reinstall the track into the layout.  In the future, if you can find the 1st and 2nd generation FasTrack, purchase it, most all of this FasTrack in the early days was made absolutely perfectly, the later made stuff not so much.
