Just purchased first new train in 25 years. Using MTH Z1000 transformer conventional. Placed train on track fired up after 10 seconds or so. All the sounds work. Have on DCS, 3 rail. No forward or reverse. Just sits there. Attempted factory reset with one horn followed by five bell. Still nothing. Vendor I purchased from has not answered email. MTH not open on weekends. Having second thoughts about moving forward in hobby

Did the engine respond with the horn/bell? People say the timing is tricky. If this is your 1st in 25 years, that would probably occur. Do you have a friend or LHS that you can visit?
After multiply attempts I was able to reset. Train makes two horn sounds after successful reset. Powered down, then restarted. No go

I feel your pain!!!!
Having the same trouble with a PS2 "Camel back". Can't get it to factory reset using my transformer.
Forum advice seems to indicate it is the Lionel RS-1 transformer I am using. Could this be the same in your case???? Just thinking out loud.
Peter.....Buco Australia.
After doing reset and getting 2 toots, just hit direction button and it should move. When you turn off track power did the engine play shutdown sounds or shut off abruptly? G
