Took my 3rd Rail D&H PAs to the club last evening for the first time having only run them once previously at Steve Maier's layout out of town.  Steve has wi-fi and we think we ran them from his Legacy set and my iphone at the same time. Anyway, last night I get all setup with a Santa Fe baggage car plus 4  21" K-Line streamliners to run and film. Could NOT remember how to program them to operate as a pair under Legacy!  Was short on time and unable to get online to YouTube for some instant tutoring. Getting old certainly is a b***h.

Reluctantly, I ran the train with a single A unit which was still nice only to find several too tight spots spots where the longer cars hit various outcroppings and accessories.  The guys in the club are still mostly traditional operators who have only recently (1-2 years) adopted Lionchief in operation. I've mentioned the wi-fi system several times with no real interest as yet.

These ALco diesels are stunning!

Is “lash-up” a term for “double-heading”?

Oh, boy. (There has been much discussion and ribbing on this forum about the term, is why I say that.)

"Lash-up" is not a proper railroad term; diesels and straight electrics are "MU'd" ("multiple-unit") when run under the control of a single engineer.

Steamers, of course, were never "MU'd" or "lashed"(!), as each loco requires its own crew.

"Lashed-up" has become a common term in model railroading, and I think that it may even have gotten off the reservation and crept out into the real world.

CSAM,

Setting up a MU (Lash Up) in Legacy using the CAB2 is relatively simple. Here are the steps from memory as I do not have a CAB2 in my hand.

        1. Program each A unit with engine numbers (18 and 16)

        2. Select a Train Number 1-10, say 5.

        3. Press Train 5, hit info screen, select Build.

        4. Enter engine # 18, add engine # 16, reverse direction on engine # 16 so the picture has engines back to back.

        5. Enter set button screen will say programming. When the MU is ready horns on both engines will sound.

        6. Run Train by hitting TR button # 5. Turn red knob to accelerate lash up. Lash up will only run in Train configuration. If you want to run engines separately press Engine # 18 or 16.

I don’t think you were using Wi Fi to run these engines as 3rd rail engine do not have Blue Tooth.

 Good Luck
