A couple days ago I wrote about my lash up issue with Proto 2.0 GP-30 and my Proto 3.0 Genset. Today I am running at the San Diego 3 railers club layout which has version 4.31 in their DCS System. I was running two of my SD-70ACes when they were in a lash up one was pushing the lead unit when I stopped the train. I lost memory in the SD-70ACe #8670 (product number 30-4214-1E) I reset by a transformer and everything powers up and runs on transformer but it won't relog back into the remote. What could be wrong with my engine?

Then my Santa Fe GP-30 #3233 (product number 20-2777-1) goes over our 90 degree diamond and I loose sound. I tried raising the volume and resetting the loco however nothing works. What could be the problem because I have had a rough day run trains?

Tim,

First, I'm not going to spend time attempting to debug beta code long-distance. When your club received DCS 4.31, it came with a host of caveats, the most important of which paraphrases as "there's no support for the software".

Second, the issues that you relate don't sound like DCS issues at all. Rather, they sound like power problems between your engines and the tracks.

What I can suggest is as follows:

  • The SD70Ace would most likely benefit from being deleted and re-added to the remote. If that doesn't fix things, an engine recovery would be a good idea. Refer to The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition, page 39. I believe that your club has a copy.
  • Does the GP30 make any sounds at all? If all you're missing is engine sounds, press the Engine Sounds button on the remote to turn them back on. If you're missing all sounds, a DCS Feature Reset should get your sounds back. Regardless, refer to "Silent PS2 Engine" on pages 167-168 of my book..
