My RK New Haven 0-8-0 shifter no longer opens its coupler on command. Wiring all looks intact. All other functions work perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions or hints. Thanks. Happy New year to all forum contributors and readers.

well....maybe everyone is celebrating?
is there any click?
both couplers?
I'm guessing if there is a front coupler.
I wonder if you could plug a light into that coupler socket to check for power?
the techs have a board tester to show what the problem is.
I would just plug in a spare coupler to see.
Swap the front and rear coupler to make sure that the coupler is not bad.
If the coupler works it is most likely the crimp on the wire that goes into the large plug on the board. It will not be the blue/purple wire (can't remember the color). It will be the other.
Also check the wires soldered to the pins in the two pin plugs
PS3 wires are a very thin gauge
I have run into a few of these lately.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by plugging in a new coupler. Neither front nor rear couplers open though both clank. How would one plug a light into the coupler?
If neither coupler works, check the wire that is common to both. That is the blue or purple (again I can't remember) one that is tied together back to one pin.
Check where they split under the shrink wrap, then check the crimp where it goes into the big plug.

maybe just try unplugging all the connectors on the ps3 board and reseat them snuggly but causally as not to damage them. then repower up engine and test all functions!
good luck
Alan
Are both wires actually attached to the coupler? Since this is an 0-8-0 it has a tender right? So no common wire to both couplers. The one on the engine is driven by the boiler board and the one in the tender is driven by the tender board. So this is a weird casualty unless the engine is roughly handled and the wires broke at the coupler. G
