Proto (QSI) to Proto 2.0

You would be better off selling your running engine and buying an upgrade kit for the QSI locomotive.

It's been done, but like Marty says, it may not be the easiest or cheapest method.

I have gotten hold of an F3 diesel (Premier) , Proto (QSI), and like the shell but want DCS.

Question . Do you also have the F-3  chassis &  motors???? . If so You could do a transplant of the railking  circuit board.  In my humble  opinion it's  doable.  The proto-2 upgrade manual on MTH site will be a big help. It has a schematic of where all the  wires plug into the board.   Fun project.

Buy a PS-3 Diesel kit and convert it.  Easiest method.  Other wise you will be missing out on features since the RK F-3 harness does not support all the light functions on a premier engine.  Yes, motors are different size too.  Kit has everything you need.  G

How much is a  PS-3 kit?

Would like to try the upgrade myself but can't find any. Apparently they are backordered indefinitely!

I'm doing just that.  Found a cheap NYC F3 ABA set, gutted the PS1 electronics out and sold them.  Purchased two PS3 kits which GGG added sounds for me.  Instead of just one ABA unit I'll have a A unit and a AB unit which I'll run in a ABA lashup.  I'm also detailing it by gutting the lobster claws and installing scale pilot and kadee couplers.

You won't find PS/2, they are out of production.  The PS/3 upgrade kit should be available.

Eastside Trains has a few in stock in our repair shop, Give them a call at 425-828-4098 ext 3. ask for Nolan or Dustin. I'm only there Fridays.  

Tried the above number and it is "disconnected".

Try again, it's not disconnected for me.  Nobody there right now apparently, there was no answer.
