I am trying to add smoke to my trailing Protosound 3 F-3 unit 30-2482-3. I know that they are the only ones that will run off of track power. The locomotive has pickups but I cannot figure out how to mount a PS 1 smoke unit in there. I had to buy a Lionel smoke funnel and modify it to fit and I have to run tubing to the smoke unit to the funnel. If anyone has done this or has an idea please let me know. If you have any questions on why I have pickups on this locomotive, please don't ask, all I can say is that I made a bad decision when I paid for the PS 3 upgrade.

The dummy unit needs smoke that has power pickups. The powered unit and dummy are identical inside but MTH never put smoke in their PS 1 F-3's. I have plenty of PS 2 smoke units but the smoke needs to run off of track power. If I can get a smoke unit mounted I can get the output to the smoke funnel without a problem. I do not want to drill in to the frame to mount it The biggest problem is MTH with no part availability as there should be mounting brackets but they are not available anywhere.

It may sound easy and could be easy but with no skills in crafts or skill using power tools I have a problem. The powered unit has a plate over the speaker port and the smoke unit is mounted to that and it is a part MTH doesn't have with 99% of their other F-3 parts. I Figured since MTH made PS 1 F-3's without smoke that someone might have already done this. If anyone has an idea of the type of smoke unit I can mount that I can use tubing with would be great.

I have added plenty of smoke units to Steam and diesels.  YOU have to Drill the frame, just like MTH.  Even if you have a bracket to the smoke unit, the other end of the bracket goes to frame with screws.  If you can't do it, then you need to send to some one.  I think I even have the MTH F-3 Prem funnel that feeds two outlets.  G
