PROVIDENCE & WORCESTER: Another Flag (my old Flag) Falls

Another Fallen Flag Paul. What a shame. I will definitely miss seeing them on the rails in New London.

Sad when you see a road name fall and go under corporate ownership, but it's still better than watching the line go dormant, railbanked, or turned into a trail...

If I remember correctly, Genesee and Wyoming has kept the names for some of its prior purchases -- or at least a short line or two.  Perhaps that might be the case here?  I recently got a P&W boxcar in N scale to save on space and money but still be able to have a representation of the RR.  I hope I don't have to move it to the fallen flag category.  It's nice to run something that's still "alive" every once in a while.

Tomlinson Run Railroad

Sad. Was/is a favorite of mine. I went to collage in Providence and enjoyed watching it. It felt like my local road. 

Looks like a third paint job for the ex- NYS&W B40-8s. 

I just ran the line last week, no one had said a word about it.

I hope the B150 yard critter survives.

Oh no...I had no idea!  It's my "local" railroad with the Worcester-Providence main line running less than a 1/4 mile from my home.  I cross the P&W's tracks practically every day.

Man, I'm sure not looking forward to seeing P&W's cool paint scheme transitioning to the G&W corporate scheme.  I better get more pictures now!

Paul - the P&W has it's own Paint Shop in the Norwich location - quite impressive as I was able to view them painting one of the Dash 8's several years ago.

Jamie - I too hope they don't mess with the Mighty 150 and the Passenger Cars.

Hope they keep the P & W colors. Some of the railroads they have bought they have replaced it with their generic paint scheme....Paul

P&W has an interesting history.  When it leased itself to the NYNH&H, it, alone of all the included RR's, had a provision saying lease would end of NYNH&H went bankrupt.  The latter did, and P&W resumed on its own.  The other RR's died with the NH.

At least it is not going to CSX!

Pity, this was a small RR my grandpa was fond of, even bought stock in them.  I enjoyed getting their calendars with the yearly company report.

RJR, very smart move and great vision on the RR's part 'way back when.   Here's a local news story.  There are also a couple of notices from a law firm questioning the amount that PW stockholders will receive ($25) but it seemed premature to post those alerts.
