I would like to put a fan driven unit in the J1a. Bought the 27ohm smoke unit with bracket for the K4 of the same vintage. I was talking to John and he gave the pin out to me. Questions

Can I just connect it to the existing smoke unit wiring? I know it will not chuff, and is an ac regulator needed?

Or can I utilize the the chuff switch on the mother board to chuff the fan? Maybe a 5v relay?

thanks again

Which ever way you go, do not put anything on the chuff wire input on the mother board....that’s a ground signal reference to command the radio board to produce a chuff....if you put voltage on that line, very bad things will happen....I’d listen to Chuck and go with John’s Chuff Stuff, ....all the added benefits sure out weigh any costs,....take advantage of Rule 17 lighting, ...have smoke at idle, and have clear how to instructions for install...........it’s not that bad to install them....after you’ve done one, it’ll be second nature.....
