Folks,

 

As a sort of companion piece to my "Ghost of Panhandle" post, here's a little photo tour of the former PRR Panhandle railroad bridge across the Ohio River at Steubenville.  The bridge was immortalized in Grif Teller's 1953 calendar art for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  The painting is called "Crossroads of Commerce" and the original hangs in the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

Here are some of my photos of the prototype taken around 2000-2001.  This is the third bridge on the site and was erected in 1927.
