I came across these two signs that were from the PRR station in Pittsburgh PA. Does anybody have any idea what the cutouts were for? Perhaps a light? They are hand lettered and pretty cool!
To fit on a axle off a signal pole of some sort so they could pivot up (in view) and down (out of view)? Although I see how you mounted them so probably not. I have no idea. Pretty cool signs though!
I don't think they moved like semaphores but rather left to right. East destination on one side, west on the other. I was really curious to know what the cutout was for. Possibly a light???? I would love to see a photo of them in the station. There used to be a museum in station square that had two of these but they no longer exist.
