The Winter 2018 edition (Vol. 51, No. 4) of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society's Quarterly magazine, The Keystone, has a short update on the status of the three-story Renovo, Pennsylvania Coaling Tower.

Renovo coaling tower

The tower/tipple is part of a 3 acre park which is being developed and once was part of the Pennsy's extensive yard here, but is currently considered to be "At risk," by a non-profit group, if funds are not found to stabilize it. Time and the elements have taken their toll on the structure with is showing its age with "crumbling concrete and rusty metal components."

The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park is responsible for the tower.

Tom: I jthough i just read somewhere that the tower was added to the states historical register and was not able to receive state funds for it's restoration.

Rick,

Good question. I've seen conflicting or unclear stories about the state's involvement. Here is the article that The Keystone piece was based on: http://www.lockhaven.com/news/...lvania-at-risk-list/ The secondary headline clearly says the state (really commonwealth) will help, but it does not elaborate in the article (at least that I saw). The good news is that apparently being labelled as being "At Risk" by the non-profit group seems to be a win-win. However, I thought East Broad Top may have had a similar type of status.
