Hi,
Can a MTH PS 1.0 engine be run and controlled with a DSC remote? If so, what is the procedure to set this up using a hand DSC remote?
Thank you,
Bo

A PS-1 engine is conventionally controlled - via changing the voltage on the track. It's like postwar in that respect. PS-1 is not a command system, it is basically a sound system with some extras.
Operate your PS-1 loco the same way you would operate a postwar loco.
Ok. Thanks.
If you have a DCS system, the TIU has two variable channels that can be used to control locomotives in conventional mode employing the DCS handheld remote that varies the voltage. If you do not have the DCS system, since its future availability is not fully known, just use any standard AC O gauge three rail transformer to control the track voltage. If you have a WIFI-TIU you can also use the MTH app to control the variable channels, and with the newer DCS TIU-WIFI(WIU) it will not come with a remote, just FYI. You'll be using the app on your smart phone or tablet. Hope this isn't too confusing and helps.
My TIU for my layout is connected to the fixed channels for my PS 3.0 engines. So, is it possible to set up my remote to use with a PS 1.0 engine?
Thanks,
Bo

No, you have to use one of the variable channels on the track for PS/1. FWIW, my mainline is on a variable channel so I can run conventional stuff if desired.
Ok. Thanks.
JFYI,
If you happen to have a MTH Z-4000 transformer and the remote receiver that plugs into it, you can use the fixed channels to vary the transformer voltage with the remote. The Variable channels can be set as FIXED also. This setup works great with PS1 and Lionel PW. Just roll up the voltage when you want to run command.
Thanks.
So you can, but you in general need to have a track set up for conventional, while operating Command engines that have full track voltage on a different line. Otherwise the composite operation becomes difficult. G
Thanks.
