I think I already know the answer, but I would like to get a confirmation. When you upgrade from PS 1.0 to PS 2.0 on a ABA set [2 Powered A and Dummy B], do you need to upgrade both A Units with new boards? I would suspect that you would. I am also assuming that the Dummy B won't need any additional components, correct? Thanks!

If you have 4 motors, you need two kits! Then you have to run the whole thing as a lashup. It becomes cost prohibitive and a crummy way to run an airline!
I am sitting here with a similar situation with components inexpensively obtained. A NYC premier ABA from the early days PS1 with 4 motors and two UP A units, each with two motors PS2 out of RTR sets and I will try to figure out whether or not I can avoid the lashup if I do swaps. Not sure I will succeed. GGG George and Gunrunner John will have to give me some advice on this effort.
Good luck to you Todd!

It may be an upgrade from your operational viewpoint, but it is the same as a two unit brand new install from a dollar stand point.
(And the "slave" thing is the pits, like Lionel powered B units without sound.)
The Slave kit mod is the other alternative and saves some money. It replicates how the unit come from the factory as PS-2. The slave kit has all the harness and the B unit gets a new 10 pin harness.
The benefit of upgrading both units with upgrade kits is no more tethers. Both A units are fully independent. The disadvantage is the cost of both being upgraded and the need to run as a Lashup. G
Are slave kits even available? I seem to recall only a limited number were made, and as luck would have it, not around when I got my diesel upgrade kit (which is still in the box while I decide which unit to put it in).
I do have a PS1 "Big Blow" turbine that I'd like to upgrade eventually, but didn't consider it a candidate for my first upgrade owing to that issue.

I may have spoke too soon...
I just re-read this... If I want to run the ABA set as a unit, and not independently run each A unit as a separate diesel, then all I need is to upgrade one A and slave the second A, and use the Dummy B? I don't mind the tethers, if this will get me what I want.
What would be a "round" figure for a slave board?
What model is this, it effects the amount of labor involved? The slave kit is the required piece because it includes the proper Lead A harness to send the 10 correct signals to the Slave unit, the harness for the B unit, and the new harness and slave board for the Trail Unit.
When done you can run A independent, run AA together, or run ABA all with full features in the trail A. You just can't run the trail A independent.
The Slave kit MSRP is about $150 while the Upgrade kit is $180. I usually discount the Slave kit.
