I have a Weaver Ultra line SD40-2 with PS1.  While entering a switch on our clubs travelling modular layout it lost power and got stuck in neutral.  At the time the previous owner, a club member, had not changed the original battery.  Thus, it may have been a low battery issue when the board lost power.  When I brought it home I did replace the battery with a new one.  Naturally, the horse was already out of the barn, but why not shut the door?

I've researched the issue on this forum and others.  I can't get it out of neutral.

On start up I don't get the 3 clanks.  I have a Z4000 and have used it to attempt a reprogram or reset using feature 18.  No joy.  I had a spare board with an SD40-2 chip and replaced the chip, still nothing.  Is it possible the board is scrambled and I could use the reset chip, even though I don't get the 3 clanks on start up?  Am I missing something?  Is this a lost cause?

I take it you have done the whole hold the whistle button while removing power to track to get it out of direction lock?  It could be in Deselect mode, which means you need to get a new chip of MTH as the reset chip set will not work.  And if the extra chip you have is the same vintage as the one in the locomotive it may not work because it recognized the deselect mode, where new chips from MTH are programmed to ignore that setting.

What does the engine do when you apply power, need to know specific start up sounds if any?  When you tried moving to reset 18 did you get all the clanks and clinks or just one or none?

If you only get one and no others when cycling through reset it is deselected. I have the chip to clear that and restore operation so your chip works.  BUt having said that, this is weaver and it could be QSI 3 board stack which is different, or it could have MTH OEM set up.  So what is under the hood matters.  G

WE get cab  light, start up sound and idle sound and one bell on shut down  Tried some resetting to factory and no clanks/clinks ?

Are we locked up?

Are we ready for the reset chip you mentioned above?

P.S...I am a member of the Paradise and Pacific RR Club, Scottsdale, AZ.   I have had Dallas Dixon take a run at this today...... he suggested  that I contact you for further advise.
