So I have three PS-2, 5 volters, all are (were?) dead! I was looking to take on the challenge of separating the boards, to see if there were any obviously blown components, and to "test" what I could. Okay, so the nightmare was splitting the two boards, as this is one of the tougher tasks. After successfully separating two units, I decided to switch the "first" pair, with the "second" pair. To my surprise, one of the mismatched original sets has "some" life! I took a video of the pair, as it's the most important part of this post. As you can "hear", the engine sound is audible in it's start up phase, then unexpectedly, becomes statically overpowered, the incandescent lamps flash erratically, and it crashes! However, what ever the problem is, and I'm hoping someone can identify this issue, it will repeatedly do this every time it's powered up. As for the other mismatched pair, still dead! If you're wondering, I haven't separated the "third pair" yet! I will as soon as my nerves calm down from splitting the first two pairs! Thanks Group!!!

I would rather bang my head against the wall, but I did go down that path when I was younger:-).  With another decade on those boards it really isn't worth it.  IF the board functions except a feature, like sound, light or motor function.  A repair can be done.  Fixing dead boards is really just a hobby for you at this point.  MTH did not have comprehensive chip list for 5V board.  Frankly very little for 3V, but 3V can be repaired much easier once you gain the experience.  G
