I'm trying to identify this transistor from a PS1 30-2140-1 E-8 rail king diesel. I Inc a pic of info l got off same. It was barely readable. I don't know how to ord this from Mouser or ? Also Inc pic of where this was located on the bottom board (marked with piece of elect tape) I'm sure this is a long shot. Thanks for any help. Chris

here is the mosfet transistor part number IRFI9 ! from Digikey we sight below there about $3.00 or less depending which one you purchase each!

Alan, thank you, but I don't know which one I should use. This is the first one on the list. Would it work? I'm {as i'm sure you can tell} don't understand these.

Thanks for your help,
Chris
this is what you showed so I assume that was the number the other picture you show me I believe is a full wave bridge rectifier which changed ac to dc
what exactly is your problem those bridge rectifier rarely fail! what is wrong with your ps 1 engine board
yes use the first one on the list!
Stan, yes it is a z. Best I can tell IRFI9Z14G.
Alan, I had been running it on a fully charged battery a couple months ago and it was fine. I recharged the bat last Fri. and installed it to run that night. Before I put it on the track several hrs latter, it started making engine sounds while still sitting on wood shelf! I opened it, removed bat and noticed the transistor had somehow, I guess, melted itself loose and was shorting out some jumpers on the top board. I know this does not make much since, but? Thank you both.
Chris
I've never heard of the one but you know what they say there is a first time for everything! maybe when you changed the battery something shorted out that you did not notice at the time. did any other parts look like they had gotten hot or was there a smell of something burnt odor? if you would like to you can mail it to me and ill see if I can fix the engine ,if it is fixable it should not cost very much as long as most of the components are ok. like I said mth had very little problems with these except a dead battery. send me an email with your phone number and i'll call you and we can talk about the board and let you knw the possibilities!
Alan
I sure was surprised when it started up on its own! I did notice a small wire with blue insul melted off, from the center solder point underneath the transistor to another location on the bottom of the board. I insulated and resoldered that. I just happened to be sitting near when all this occurred, and yes it was smoking and starting to get hot. I have no idea what happened to cause it to heat up and melt itself off? Anyway I'll order the transistor you said and hope for the best, but i'd be surprised if it ever works again. I'll check back to let you know.
Thank you Alan and Stan.
GUNRUNNERJOHN , thank you. I'll ord that one tomorrow.
Chris
Looks like the IRF9Z10 that Stan posted from another PS/1 board is also an option, it's similar specifications. The IRF9510 has a higher voltage rating, maybe they found that the IRF9Z10 was not lasting?
Yea I didn't know which to order? I'm glad you clarified. I appreciate everyone who took time to help me.
Chris
Either would probably work, like I said, the one with the higher voltage rating would be my choice, simply because it offers a more robust rating.
Good to know. I'll be ordering that and some other items today. Thanks to you, Stan and Alan for helping me find what I needed as well as educating me. I follow you John and now will add Alan and Stan. I didn't know what a transistor was until this, I had to Google electronic component with three leads. Slowly learning, thanks,
Chris
I wanted to let everyone know I got the engine running and it seems to be working fine. Even the passenger sounds feature, which I still like after all these years. After I put the transistor in, it ran and then smelled hot again? I think I found what I guess caused all of this. On the other end of the bottom board are 4 diodes? not sure? About a 1/4 "dia and 1/4 to 3/8" long with a band at one end and marked 6A and a funny looking 4? Anyway one was barely touching an metal grommet made into the board to secure it with a screw from underneath. Resolidered and bent away from metal post. and no more hot smell so far!
Thank you: Alan, Stan and Gunrunnerjohn! No way I could have done this without your help! I can hardly believe its working.
Chris
Glad to see you revived it.
