what is the difference between a regular ps2 diesel board and the ps2-3 board I am still trying to find a replacement board for a converted dd40 that was ps1 to ps2 but the guy messed up on the smoke units

Purely a guess but....when MTH changed the PS-2 boards to 3V from 5V, did they add the -3 designation?
I'm sure many of the experts will pop up soon.
The PS32 board is a PS/3 board under the covers and has a translator board stacked on it to make it appear as a PS/2 board. It's a pure PS/3 board under the covers and there are special chain files to adapt it to the various PS/2 configurations that existed, trolley/subway, electric locomotives with operating pantographs, the Coors Silver Bullet set, etc.
so would that work in my converted dd 40? if so where could I locate one?
thanks John
MTH parts should soon arise from the ashes, and I'm hopeful that we'll be able to get PS32 boards again.
keep the faith John
A PS3/2 board gives you the ability to upgrade a PS1 loco with the latest sounds, without the use of a battery. You can download either a PS2 or PS3 file. A standard PS2 board (now obsolete) You had only access to limited range PS2 sound files. Example would be a PS2 sound file is superior to it's predecessor PS1. A PS3 or 3/2 board board is superior to PS2 board. The Big Boy PS1 whistle now sounds 'flat' to our ears as compared to PS2. The PS3 version sounds 'hi-fi' with depth and more bass.
help me find one bud thus is waggy
I have them in stock and can do the repair, but worth seeing what was done. Don't understand how the smoke units and PS-2 3V function are related unless you are saying they killed the board. G
