Have a 30-1215-1 engine that I may install a Dallee reverse unit in that has provisions for directional lighting. The incandecsent lamps are small grain (rice?) size lamps. What are their nomial voltage? Obviously I will have to design a constant voltage drop circuit to illuminate bulbs at all track voltage levels.

I believe these are 12V lamps, at least that's what was in the one I recently worked on. I replaced two of them with 12V bulbs of the same size and they worked just fine.
Sam,
As I recall, the grain of wheat bulbs in PS2 engines that are connected to the PS2 board (even via a CV board) are all 6 volts.
Mine were connected directly, and they're 12 volt bulbs. They are very dim on 6V direct from my P/S and look fine at 12V. I happen to have a 3V model open on the bench, those bulbs are 6V.

Are you disagreeing? Because if you are, you are most certainly mistaken. The following is from the MTH ASC Service Manual, Chapter 2, page 17:
16 or 18 volts power taken off the track.
6 volts powered by Constant Voltage (CV), LocoSound and PS2 boards.
1.5 volt directional lights powered by the Original ProtoSound board.
L.E.D. Light Emitting Diode powered by 1.5 volts each or 3 volts if two are used in series usually from a Constant Voltage (CV) or Original Proto or PS2 board.
The original poster's question has been asked and answered. There's no need for further discussion.
Barry, you must be used to this. You're right, don't know what I was thinking. I checked the other locomotive and sure enough, they're also 6V bulbs! I would have sworn I put 12V bulbs in there, obviously not!
The PS2 upgrade kits I'm installing say they are all 6v bulbs. I looked at some LEDs but they had a range of voltage and wern't sure about AC vs DC so I decided to just go with the bulbs in the kit.
Stay with what is in the kit and if your locomotive you are upgrading has LED markers, use them.
