My PS2 Alco C628 disappeared from the DCS remote.  It’s not in the active or inactive list.  Yet it responds to commands when I call up the lash-up it belongs to.  It was in the engine list before I changed the battery in the other lash-up member engine and charged it on track for several hours.  DSC version is 4.20 (2003).  I’ve tried turning the remote off and then on again a number of times, but the engine is still missing.  I’m not looking forward to resetting the remote and them reloading all the engines.  I’m thinking about just reloading the one missing engine and giving up the ID address that it used to reside at.  Anyone see a problem with that?

I would delete the loco from the remote, and then re-add it.  If found, it will probably come up in the recently vacated spot.  I would NOT do a remote reset.

I do not do lashups and are not familiar with them, but, if possible, I would delete it from the lashup first.

As a general recommendation to DCS users:  When everything is working right, and all loco settings are as you want them, and locos are all off the inactive list, use the clone feature of the loader program to save the remote's contents to a computer, even if you only have one remote.  Then, if you ever have to do a remote reset, or you have a boodle of locos on the inactive list, simply restore the contents from the computer.  The restore process starts with a remote-clearing and then reloads what you have saved.  This does not affect the program (e.g., 4.20, 4.30, etc) in the remote.

Are you saying that it will still show up in a delete list?

I could see that re-adding it might bring it back with the same address if the remote will let it. ????

You're right  Joe you can't delete it if you can't find it in the remote.  I'll go back and delete my post. (if I can find it )

I turned the remote on and the other engine in the lash-up (an Alco RS3) came up as ID number 2 only (no name).  It ran OK on its own anyway.  I then tried the lash-up and both engines ran in sync, but the RS3 (ID #2) disappeared completely.  I deleted the lash-up thinking maybe the individual engines would come back…Nope.  But I was able to add both engines back in.  I probably lost address #2 in the remote, but beside that, all appears to be well.  Not sure if the battery replacement was the cause of this, but from now on I’ll delete any lash-ups prior to replacing the battery in any member engines.

RJR – Thanks.  I’m definitely going to download the DCS loader program.  I have a Rev L TIU so I’m pretty sure I have the cable I need.  I’ll probably look in my box of computer junk for one tonight

J Daddy - It took me a few minutes, but I figured it out.  Disappearing engine indeed.

Lehigh:  Whatever you have, it must be contagioous electronically.  I just had a loco disappear from a remote, and in its place was a no name loco showing a SMPH of 254 and an "(L)".  As I said above, I have never setup a lashup.  Now that has disappeared and the remote can't find an engine to add.  Other remotes do, so a clone restore may be coming up.

All kidding aside you should be able to re-add the engine with no issues.

I wanted to create an area where long trains could enter a holding track and electronically be delayed. They would re-appear later after other trains went by.

I now see that there's another simple way. A really big hidden loop would do it!

Come to think of it, when the RS3 came up with just the ID number, it had SMPH of 125 and a (D).

I've seen similar  weird things lately as well...

Lehigh, I suspect a battery or cap issue.  I had this happen a few months ago on a loco with a 12 year old battery, and yesterday on a loco with a supercap, where track power got turned on briefly and then off.  Notice I said suspect.  I am not speaking with any degree of certainty.

I have seen the name I gave a loco replaced with the name that MTH flashed into it when they installed it in a new loco
