The original engine is 20-2265-1 AC6000 PS2 5V. I replaced with 3V board and new speaker using the same wiring harness. Using a BCR. Tried to load sound file from 20-2833-1 but apparently too big. Successfully loaded 20-2385-1 sound file. Everything (lights, horn, bell, smoke, couplers, speed control) worked properly. After running about 30 minutes, engine started making knocking" sound and lights no longer working; also no horn or bell. Using DCS, did a feature reset and everything worked again. I decided to rearrange some soft keys and could see the list to scroll through. When I went to select one to move, the list changed to only two items and I could not change anything. Did a feature reset to get engine back in operation. I haven't had time to run for a longer length of time to see if engine will exhibit same problem.

Any ideas on what is wrong. Wrong sound file?, Overheating board? Other???

Sounds like the board has a 1Meg memory chip so that is the largest Sound File that can be loaded.  So the engine characteristic are what is in the SF you loaded.  May not be the same as the original.  Not sure why your having the issues you are.  You can do a factory reset and then reload engine and see how it performs.

Any reason you did not load the Upgrade SF under the original Engine?  G

Thanks everyone for feedback.  I did replace the connectors to match up with 5 volt harness.

George, I'm not that familiar with compatibility of various sound files. I thought "upgrade" files were for a PS3 upgrade.  I will try to load the upgrade file for this engine. I won't be able to get to this until after Thanksgiving.

I'm also going to relook at heat sink installation because at least one input I got from a tech is could be heat related since it seems to "act up" after several minutes of use.  Just hate taking shell off again since hard to get all wiring, smoke unit and board back without pinching any wires.

I am not a tech. The only board that I had that lost info, had the processor got scrambled after severe shorting. That board went south. I've never seen one lose any part of a sound file otherwise. I don't see nearly as many boards as techs do. I have worked on a couple of dozen so far.

I was amazed that another board saw a direct short, and recovered fully the next day. It took a reset. All parts of the file seemed OK.

When you go in there, make sure you don't zap the board with static from your clothes!!

Do you think the remote soft key could have stuck for the choice of delete? I believe you can delete the softkeys and they restore if you reload the engine into the remote.

Otherwise this issue is way over my head. (pay grade)

Any chance the battery could be dead? I've seen plenty of weird stuff when the battery goes bad.

KENJR, If you do have to remove the shell again, have a bag of those mini zip ties handy. Add them where needed in an attempt to eliminate, any chance at all, of a stray wire getting pinched.  Also do what you can to keep headlight and marker light wires from getting rubbed by the flywheels which is common. No matter how careful you are or how many times you put shells back on, the gremlins seem to enjoy moving those wires into the danger zone.
