how do you get a PS/2 engine to run in conventional with a ZW. Don't you raze or lower the volts ? I had running, stoped it and now I don't know how I did it.

they can be tricky and can be locked into forward, neutral, or reverse. You really should read up on how to operate them.
Run the throttle up slowly to get around 8-10 volts or so (the lights should come on and then engine should start. Press the direction button and then raise the throttle to run it.
If you turn the throttle up to high at first, the engine won't move as it comes up in neutral. Lower the throttle and press the direction button.
Now the internal battery needs to be charged up to run good so you may have to leave the throttle up for a while to charge it before it will move.
Joe, are you sure you're not talking about a PS/1 locomotive? PS/2 doesn't have any voltage threshold, it should just fail to detect a watchdog signal and come up in conventional mode. After than, it's ready to go.
that did not work, its stuck in neutral. I will try to charge it on the track for a few hours.

Duh, read it correctly and then my brain processed it wrong. Yes, thinking of PS1. Sorry.
For a PS/2 with no DCS system, it should run just like any other conventional locomotive. One difference is the PS/2 engine will always come up in neutral, just press the direction button or bring the throttle down to zero for a moment and then it should go once you give it power again.
A PS/2 locomotive can be locked in neutral even in conventional mode.
To lock or unlock, 1 whistle and 3 bells with a 0.5 second pause between button presses.

True, hard to imagine that happened when he was just running it. Toggling that option may just add to the confusion.
I thought PS/2 would not leave neutral if the battery was dead in conventional?
Correct if the battery is dead you can't run conventional with PS/2 as it restarts each time you cycle power.
I needed a new battery.
we need to know if it's a ps2 3 volt or PS 2 5-volt board ps2 3 volts would be 2.4-volt AA or AAA and PS 2 5 volt would be a 8.4-volt battery. which board do you have? Alan
