After a 2-year hiatus from model railroading, I discovered MTH is going away if not already gone. All but 2 of my 30+ locomotives are Rail King PS2, PS3 & PS32. The Lionel locomotives I have operate with TMCC, and I have the stuff to hookup TMCC to my DCS TIU. What can I expect to get out of the TMCC locomotives in comparison to PS2? Are there any pitfalls in adding TMCC to my MTH DCS layout?

So much depends on the age of the TMCC locomotives in terms of expectations.  I decided to add DCS a few years ago and have only used it on temporary Christmas layouts but am in the process of building my 2nd permanent (oxymoron, I know) layout in my basement.

I got into DCS/MTH for a couple reasons having been all TMCC and conventional previously:  (1) 4 chuffs per revolution is standard on steamers; (2) speed control is standard; and, (3) widen my selection.  Most semi-scale TMCC engines didn't come with Lionel's equivalent of speed/cruise control, Odyssey.

On the positive side, granted I'm new to DCS, but I think DCS is more complicated, so TMCC has the benefit of simplicity IMO.

New York Central S2 No 125 399kbRaising 4 Daughters, I hope you have a strong will and a good heart because raising 4 girls is a handful of effort and perseverance. My wife & I raised 2 daughters and it was not easy once they became teenagers. Thanks for responding. MTH's DCS is the prime operating system on my layout and it is exceptional. I have no experience with TMCC, and I do not know its features.

Gunnerjohn, thanks for responding. I value your experience and opinions. Is there a list of TMCC operating features you can direct me to? I have a Lionel NYC S2 Electric with TMCC, but I do not its operating instructions.

Well, the instructions for the S2 are easy, some links to the Lionel Product page for manuals:   S-2 Electric - 7/05.  There's even a wiring diagram in case you want to repair it.  NYC S-1 Electric - Wiring Diagram - 2005.

Defining the operating instructions for TMCC locomotives is a moving target, there are many different locomotives, steam, diesel, electric, and each will have it's quirks.  However, in general, they have similar capabilities as the DCS stuff for most of the common functions.
