My GS4 Daylight comes up in conventional mode 15 seconds after power is applied to the track and requires a startup command to stop it from smoking. My other PS3 engines (only 2 or 3 other ones) do not exibit this procedure and see the watchdog signal at track power up. Is this something new with PS3 engines or is there an issue with the GS-4 electronics? Thoughts...

Something wrong with the PS-3 and it is missing watch dog. But sounds like it will take commands after that? Correct? Try a factory reset, but I think there may be a sensitivity issue with the engine. G
Try moving it somewhere else on the layout for startup.
Then clean the Wheels and pickups, straight from the factory they can be oxidized.
No trouble with my only PS3 (Imperial Northern) on a very old TIU.
Eugene,
Just an FYi. I have 7 PS3 engines (2 diesels, 2 electrics and 3 steamers). None of them have any issues regarding missing a watchdog signal.
Are all of them on the same spot on your track when this occurs?
Not different sidings, etc? Like BB, ours all work the same.
I does not matter where it is on the track. I have three other engines (trains) on that loop (Kline Hudson with PS-2 upgrade, Reading T1, and N&W J all PS2s). I will ask Engine House Hobbies to investigate with MTH.
