I'm looking at getting a PS3 B6 (30-1709-1) I would change the sound set to the eariler 30-1170-1 B6. I'm not crazy about the fact that the PS3 engines have rule 17 lighting and that the cab light turns off when moving. Is there a way to disable that?

Anyone?
You can change the sound set to one that takes up less memory. Sometimes the sound set may control a certain lighting effect.
I believe that most ( if not all the lights) are controlled by the chain file. You may get unexpected or unwanted results changing the chain file.
I have not tried this type of change going back to an old chain file with a new board, that I remember anyways. I like the newer effects and they seem much more realistic to me.
Ah. So if I used a sound file from a PS2 B6. The rule 17 and auto cab light might go away? The new lighting features are cool but not on the steamers since, the rule 17 is a modern thing.
I'm not sure anyone could answer that, other than the people at MTH. Most of us just try it and see. It's not a given. For some reason, certain effects are controlled with the sound set. I think that later files (like PS3) are more of a given in what they control and how. I am not a tech! (obviously)
I would try it changing just the sound set first. I personally would leave the chain file alone. You can try the whole thing. I just worry you might brick the board set and then have to send it to MTH if you do. You may be able to change the chain file safely and then install the original of it's not what you want. I just don't know about each file.
Maybe one of the tech's here would know better?
If you back a PS-2 3V sf in, you need to keep the original chain file. I still think you wind up with rule 17 though. G
That PS2 file from 30-1170-1 is a 5 volt file, won't load into a PS3 board.
