I've got a PS3 SD60 that will not go into reverse. The headlight switches back to reverse, but nothing else. First thing I checked was to see if the direction function was locked out. Everything was fine there. I also noticed you don't hear the "click" when you hit the reverse icon on the tablet. I did a factory restore but nothing changes. I didn't know if this is a DCS problem or a engine malfunction. If I had to say, it's a engine problem.

Every thing functions, motors move. Just no reverse, except the headlight changes as it should. I did a factory reset with no change. I just did a feature reset, and when I went to try reverse I heard a electric crackling. I shut the power down immediately. I applied power again and did a restart up to see if maybe it fried itself. It booted right up but still no reverse. Obviously something is not right. I shut it down before something more gets damaged.

if your not hearing a relay click on powering up you could have a board problem! I would unplug the 4 pin yellow and white 4 wire connector from the ps3  board. then apply a dc voltage and see if the motor will run in both directions if it does it's definitely a board problem because you should hear a relay click when changing directions ! the ps 3 board uses 2 fet's for forward and reverse if repairable as ASC tech could do it for you!

There is no 4 Pin motor connecter on the PS-3 Diesel board Alan or any other PS board for that matter.  This is not a motor lead issue since it runs in forward.  PS-3 uses the same FET control for Forward and Reverse, so it is not the FET.  So what you said is incorrect.  Just like PS-2 3V only one motor fet for motor control, the relay does the switch.  This does seem like a relay issue.  If it is stuck or damaged.  Or the control for the relay is bad, this can causes it not to flip motor lead polarity.  With shell off try tapping the black relay plastic case with a screw driver handle. See if it flips.  If so may be mechanical binding inside relay.  Otherwise, needs to be examined to see if it can be repaired at board level.  G
