As part of an on-going project, I've re-programmed a PS3 AS-616 to a PS3 F7, with a new chain and sound file.  I've added a Mars light pin/wiring/led, and it works, and I've added a number board pin/wiring/lights, but it does not.  The LED's are functional, as I can connect them to the headlight connector and they function.  But no light connected to the number board pin works.

Any suggestions?

If not, can I gang the number board LEDs and headlight LED?  At least I get on/off functionality as a group of 3.

It's not advisable to gank the LED's to other outputs, the PS/3 boards aren't like the PS/2 boards in that they have tons of current available.  My guess is the F7 didn't have lights connected to the number boards.  Try one of the ditch light outputs, they're active for a lot of stuff, even if it doesn't have ditch lights.  Just set them to ON and they should work.  Lots of PS/2 used the ditch light outputs for number boards.

John,  It is not a problem.  If you look at the PS-3 upgrade kit harness, they run 4 LED off one wire.  It is the Number boards.  If the F-7 doesn't have NB, that might be your problem, if it does, they may have used a different output pin.  You could experiment, or as you state, just add them to the Headlight.  The issue is you will get Rule 17 on that.   G

Thanks - I found the problem.  When I extracted the wire/crimp socket for the rear headlight to move it to the number board location (the AS-616 had a rear light but no number board light, the F7 (F3 shell) has no rear light, but has number board lights), I put too much pressure on the micro socket and unknowingly cut it in half.  When I re-inserted, it stayed in, but it wasn't making contact with the pin.  Thanks to an unrelated GRJ post, I had purchased a mini crimp tool and guessed at a digi-key micro crimp socket for the new PS3 40 pin connector.  Re-installing a fresh socket that now makes contact with the mating connector got it to work.  The 1mm setting on the crimp tool worked great.  Trying to get the wire into and socket into the tool together, without a magnifier, was a pain.

John - I used the following:

I cutoff the broken contact, striped the wire, and put the above one on, using your recommended tool for the other larger MTH connectors.  The PA-09 worked great on the 1.0 setting, where it also works good on the 1.9 setting for the larger connectors for the lighting.

I guessed that this might be the connector, too, but I didn't buy one of those.

Those are the same contacts that I've been using for the past 2 years on PS3 boards.
