on a proto sound 3, does the smoke screwdriver dial on the bottom of the engine control the speed of the fan, the heat of the element, or something else? i ask because i think my 30-20237-1 (INRD sd60 railking) has an issue. it requires a "full tank" at all times of about 20 drops and it smokes like a chimney. if it starts to fade at all it starts to burn the wick. was hoping just turning down the dial would lower the heat of the element as an easy "fix".

It's the heat of the smoke element, is doesn't affect the operation of the fan.
I don't believe the pot dials on the locomotive do anything unless you are running conventional. If you are using DCS I believe the app or remote settings override the dial/switch setting. If you are using the premium app the smoke levels are low, med or high. If you are using the basic free app there is no adjustment. Only on and off and smoke level is defaulted to high.

i am running conventional.
Don't be afraid to use some extra drops of fluid. These fan driven smoke units hold a good bit. I usually put about 30 or so drops in a new one to get the wick nicely saturated. Sometimes more.
