Pullman/General Steel Castings/Commonwealth 41 HR Trucks

Keil-Line had a couple versions of the '41' series trucks in kit form. Notably the 41N and 41NP.

Perhaps they can be a good place to start from.

Would the Atlas O Cal Zephyr trucks work?

Sorry, I am not well versed on these models.

The Milwaukee Hiawatha cars used those trucks.

The tops of the 41 N and ND series truck sideframes are shaped differently than the 41 HR (and 41 ER), and would be difficult to reshape, I think.

I believe the Milwaukee Hiawatha cars used the Nystrom design.

The Atlas Zephyr trucks also seem to be a different design.

My basic problem is that the Walthers photos and all of the other online photos and print photos that I have found are taken at an angle such that I can’t make out the details of how to substitute the helical bolster springs of the 41 HR trucks for the elliptical springs of 41 ER.

If anyone comes across a prototype photo or diagram of the sideframes of either the 41 HR or the 41 ER, I would be most appreciative.

Totally out of it as far as this nomenclature is concerned.  the UP truck done by Kemtron has the helical spring on the center bolster.

Do what I do - make a master out of plastic 5% bigger, create a metal pattern, get a mold made, and produce them.

Thanks for your suggestion Marty.  The Keil Line/Scale City trucks would be really difficult to modify.

Bob I would love to do what you suggest, but, alas, my skill level is so much lower than yours.  This is my first post.  I have been following your work for some time now, both on the groups, and your previous articles in O Scale News.  I would love to be able to do the things you are doing with casting and machining.  I eagerly await further news on your E units and your other projects.
