I'm using an old caboose for a model of a backwoods cabin.  That was not uncommon in these parts.  There are still a couple of them in my area.  One is still on its trucks and on a short length of track.  The other is on a concrete block foundation and is pretty beat up.  Also, there was a candy/ice cream shop in one a couple of small towns North of me.

Bubbas hangout for the HoBos. Weathered the old Lionel caboose up, added some signs like BYOB   Bring your own beans.  This is all the photos I could find of it for now.  The layout has been taken down now but will be used in the new future one that we are building.  Nick

There is a train collector in the Portland area that had a surplus caboose shipped to Maine, lifted off the rails, put on a flatbed truck, taken to his home, and had a crane lift it into his back yard. Some neighbors complained, but the city did not and he now has a really cool backyard getaway.

You could replicate this.
