How hard is it to put kadee couplers on a MTH 4 bay cylindrical hopper? And is it worth the hassle. I'm just starting to put kadee couplera on my rolling stock. Thanks for any help Rick.

Hi Rick ........If this is newer rolling stock it may have the mounting holes in place, which means its easy, may just need a shim. If not then its more difficult but doable. I have several open hoppers to do and one end there is a place to drill holes and mount KD's. The other end not even a place to drill holes. I have to glue a custom piece of plastic on. Can you send photo of bottom of car in question ?

I converted a couple of older ones, including the NAHX car from the very first release. It’s not too hard, but you do have to build up a mounting pad inside the end (unless as Clem says MTH upgraded to make them Kadee ready). Just cut and glue sheet styrene and drill the mount holes. I usually lower MTH hoppers by swapping in Atlas 100 ton trucks. I didn’t bother on these, though. I thought they looked OK with factory trucks. It’s always worthwhile to convert to Kadees. I think this was one the first MTH conversions I did
