If you are talking about the top surface a 4 x 8 sheet of 3/4" PVC Board costs around $150 and weighs 75 lbs.

Or are you talking about the 1 X ? for the support base/

I work a lot with PVC planking. It is very flexible. I would be concerned about the flexing motion affecting track joints.

If you want a very stable 4 X 8 surface you may want to look at Huber's Advantech. Inordinately flat and rigid.

If he frames it with 1 x 3 that will take care of the flexing.

Not to mention that PVC/vinyl boards are more expensive.
