I recently bought a used 164 log loader on ebay. It came with a 97c controller. All work fine but it seems that the 97c takes up a lot of space for it's very simple functions, name "on and off " for the lift knob and momentary for the dump button. There must be way to replace both with a simple switch and button. I know a video on "toy trains and tips" replaced the controller for a ucs track with a single button. I have done this with my ucs's and they work great. Ideas on the 97c?

You can use any SPDT momentary one direction - on-off-(on) - center off slide or toggle for the smallest solution.
"on" for the lift motor, "(on)" for the dump gate.

I should have taken the bottom off first! I had expected multiple contact layers like the conventional ucs controllers. Indeed it was much simpler than expected. I can see how a simple momentary button and switch can be wired with 3 wires.
