Just purchased a Thomas set w/remote (30190) for the grandsons second birthday. This set has the wall pac that supplies 18v to the track and remote. I would like to use some postwar accesories, in particular a 154 crossing flasher that came with a 154C contactor which obviously can't be used. So 2 questions:

1. How can I use this with fastrack so the lights flash as the train approaches?

2. i would like to run this and some other accesories off of track power, rather than having a separate transformer, so will the 18v be a problem and if so is there a work around?

The 153IR with a separate power source. You could find a used CW80 and run Thomas from A-U at 17~18v (full throttle) and the accessories from the accessory posts.(The accessory post can be set at variable voltages. Get the version with a "G" in the serial number.

The answer you want is the FasTrack accessory activator pack and the attach the gate to the track.

The caveats are the bulb issue as mentioned by Mikado 4501 and the amperage draw. I haven't checked what Thomas draws as I am running him off of a ZW-C. The wall-wart is rated @ 2 amps. Old style PW bulbs and motors will tax the wall-wart.

The LionChief Thomas is cool! My soon to be 2 years old grandson can operate it and likes it a lot!

Addendum: You could use the accessory activator pack and replace the bulbs in the flasher with these ready to go LED's 1449 E10 replacement red. Then the draw on the wall-wart will be minimal.

Before I would buy any CW 80, I would go online to see what others are saying about this transformer. I got one with my Wabash Bluebird set over two years ago, and I finally hooked it up (used other t-formers up to now) last week and got about twenty minutes or less of running out of it before it packed it in. I used it as an accessory hookup for a few days with no problem, but as soon as I started running a train with it, it stopped working. You need to buy special - and difficult to obtain - triangular screwdrivers to get into the casing; apparently the problem is an inner fuse that blows up when someone threatens to run a train. No more CW 80s for me...

Also, there is a way to hookup accessories to FasTrack sections, but it's a bit time-consuming, but works with a ground rail hookup. If interested, go to my avatar and let me know; I'll send you some info.
