Hey all,
Have an MTH Camelback that has one of the old reversing boards that's pre Proto-Sound 1. Was running along fine, then it abruptly stopped. Smoke and whistle still works, but the engine won't cycle direction at all, so I suspect the board has shot craps on me.
If I have to go replacing it, what would be the easiest way? I've done a board swap on a PS1 engine before, so was sort of hoping I might be able to do something similar here.

we need the mth item number to help so we know exactly what engine you have and what year it was built, could be a prom failure on your board, also mth still sells these boards protol 1 power supply n microprocessor boards! also asc tech's can get these boards n possibly repair your board!

Doesn't have a PS1 board, just a reverse unit and whistle. So can I upgrade it to a proto board?
You could stick a PS/1 board in there and have better sound and operation. All the work should be in the tender, and you can use the same 4-pin locomotive connection between the locomotive and tender.

It is a DCRU. Make sure lock out switch still connected and not in wrong position. Can replace with DCRU I have them in stock, MTH no longer has them. G
I'll check, but I'm not sure it ever had a switch, only one I can recall is on the engine for the smoke unit. If that's all that's wrong I'll sure feel a little silly...

Lockout switch would be same place as DCRU. So tender in this case. G
Ok, checked the switch. Everything's tight, still no joy no matter which direction the switch is in.
You can email me via profile. Send pic of the DCRU top and bottom. I have several and can sell you what you need. It is possible the logic chip failed. G
