HI, Would someone please check there pre-war brown 2642, 2643 passenger cars and tell me if the light sockets are bayonet base or screw base? Thanks, Ed

While I don't have these cars, I have the prewar 2640 and 2641 prewar passenger cars, and they are sockets.
I would imagine they are just painted differently.
Yes, they are screw base.
They should be screw in base light sockets, same as the pre-war 2640 & 2641.
Someties you may find the old GE Mazda Christmas lights in them, as they were the same size sockets back in the 1930' to 1950's, and were used on 120 volts in series hook-up of 7 lights or around 17.5 volts each.

Wel, I just bought a 2642, 2642, 2643 set with bayonet base sockets. The reason I put this thread on was because I thought that bayonet bases came after the war. Right or wrong?
carGuy, what kind of sockets??????
Did Lionel put bayonet base sockets on anything before the war? Still waiting for the answer. I need to know for sure. Thanks
Here the socket you need we have them in stock.first item.
Dennis, these cars have bayonet sockets with screw bulbs in them. So you are saying, no bayonet bases came with these cars. So did someone change the sockets in my cars, and stuffed screw base bulbs into them? Where are all the pre-war collectors that have these cars???
are you blind?

Sorry, I must have still been overheated when I posted that. They are screw bulb sockets.
Lionel first used bayonet bulbs in 1947. Anything before was screw. The first example is the 2332 GG-1
THANKYOU CHUCK.
Bayonette base means that you have to push and turn on the light bulb to remove it or install it.
Screw-in base has threads and won't take the bayonette bulb because it has two little pieces of metal sticking out of it that allow it to work with the bayonette socket only.
Also a screw-in bulb will fall out of a bayonette socket.
