Am I right, didn't someone offer a detail kit for the Bachman/Plasticville Coaling tower? Anyone have one or know where I could get one? Thanks Don

Micro-Mark used to offer one in their catalog.
Don,
If you cannot find one, I think I have an extra one on my workbench.
They were discontinued.
Actually, folks, they're still available...but apparently not through MicroMark.
Here's the manufacturer...who was identified on the MicroMark package...

The PV coal tower topper is kit # 1016-O...scroll down the above website page to see the photo/listing. I believe Mt. Blue's price is even less than MicroMark originally offered it.
Take some time to browse Mt. Blue's entire product line. Yes, they're into the smaller scales, too, but they have some REALLY neat products...especially with a N.E. style/flair.
There was a separate thread...I believe you started that, too, Don...re building from kits nowadays. Well, here's another source of that pleasant pasttime!
FWIW, always...

Thanks Don and KD. I have a Bachmann coal tower kit that I am going to put on my layout. I picked it up for a few dollars at a train show and figured if I painted it or just sprayed it with Dullcote it would do for a place holder until I had time to build something better. That kit looks pretty neat - maybe I'll do that and make the "something better" out of the Plasticville. The "topper" really does seem to transform the original kit.
If I had room for it, I'd buy the Emu Flat kit just for the name!
It is an easy fun project to make your own coal tower topper. I used 1/8 inch tempered Masonite sheeting.
Kit bashed coaling tower topper is first below. The roof is scale corrugated metal roofing from a train show.
The second picture is a coal mine is kit bashed coaling tower for the back half and scratch built front half with solenoid operated coal discharge.
See the below OGR forum link for more on the coal mine and coal tower kitbashing of Plasticvilles Coal Tower Kit.

I enjoyed making these buildings.

Looks like it would be easy to make yourself really.....does improve the old Plasticville kit.
Just wanted to let everyone know Roger is sending me the kit. A big Mahalo to you Roger. Don
My pleasure Don.
I used that kit on my Bachman coal tower. It's an easy build and it does look good! It gives it a 'different look' to the hundreds of them out there on other layouts. MilwRdPaul
It really does dress up the Bachmann kit. Some scratchbuilt details on the coal chute with some pulleys, cables, etc. really make it look good. I also replaced the legs on mine with some wooden ones. I think it took longer for the paint to completely dry than it did to gussy up the structure.
Might be fairly easy to scratch build a little "Dump House" for the Bachman unit as seen on the right of the GGD Tower pictured below.

Dewey, Good point;
In my mind, a short covered bridge popped up.
Just splice em together and you are done.
I recently purchased these photos of the Mississippian Railway. Check out this coaling facility.
