Hi All,
I'm in the process of taking my layout down. I am packing everything away for now. I seem to be missing inserts for four of my boxes. They are all modern cars...two Northeastern cabooses and two die-cast hoppers. Does anyone know if Lionel offers the styrofoam box inserts through their parts department, or am I out of luck?

Once purchased a RailSounds boxcar on eBay, and the nimrod seller shipped it in the original box without the styrofoam insert. Considering all the forum members advocating tossing boxes, posted a WTB empty box with insert listing here but got no response. Eventually found another eBay seller offering an empty box for another boxcar of the same size and used the insert from that empty box to remedy the issue of the boxcar sliding around inside the original box.

Sorry I missed that. I'm not attached to my boxes and owe you the price of some big grins 
My hotbox box just serves as a step/podium on a shelf... I have 2x4s to use I've sent them off to new owners before too.
You would have to carve a new box out of scrap foam.
I'd just wrap them first in acid-free paper and then bubble-wrap. You're just trying to protect them.
