Good afternoon all,

I upgraded a beautiful Lionel Dreyfus Hudson for a fellow forum member item 6-28084, and I really like it. I've looked pretty much everywhere for this engine with no luck, am I way off thinking that I can get one or am I looking in the wrong place. I was going to post a thread on wanted to buy but I would like to know first if there's any way of getting one. If anyone has seen one at there LHS or has one and wants to part with it , please let me know.

Thanks, Alex

Don't forget, there is more than one version. In addition to at least one "regular" version, there is the fantastic Smithsonian model in brass, which came in a wooden case. There are a couple of those on the Bay with rather awe-inspiring "buy it now" prices, but in the past I have seen one or two of them go for what I considered reasonable prices, considering the quality.

MTH also made the Dreyfuss with PS/2, in multiple variations with your choice of Scullin or Boxpok drivers and regular or extra-large tender.

I too am looking for this Hudson, let me say sorry in advance for possible future competition

The last one that went through ebay the bidding got pretty heated and it went for close to $1,000. I think it was used to boot. They're out there, just pretty sought after. It's too bad Lionel cancelled the Legacy version, otherwise they would have all come out of the woodwork cheap as people would have dumped them to finance the upgrade.

Thanks Southwest Hiawatha, for the info. I just took a look at them on - bay and there are beautiful but way out of my price range.

Nick I totally understand, this is a really beautiful engine with awesome sound that Lionel put out. I was thinking of buying the MTH version and either leaving it the way it is, or changing it to TMCC. I know as soon as I find one Lionel will make the Legacy version. LOL

I have really wanted a Dreyfus Hudson for quite some time: it is one of only a very few that were on my "must have" list seven years ago that I do not have now or on order.

The price at amercia'sbesttrain (the link RickO posted) seems very reasonable to me: original list price in 2002 was $1050, so $1200, given the rarity of the item seems low, actually - only 1.3% escalation in price per year.

But I will wait for a Legacy or Vision version - certainly hope sometime in the next few years, and probably going to cost $1,500 to $2,200 depending (making the $1,200 TMCC version look like a bargain) - but it will be worth it.   My experience with TMCC locos is not good - I run only conventional and while Legacy locos run smoothly at low speeds and respond very linearly to throttle control in conventional, about 60% of TMCC locos I have jackrabbit start, refuse to run slow at all, and have a very narrow  and non-linear throttle response range. And of course, the newer loco will have better sound.
