Just trying to understand the relationship between these two. I see Metro North loco and cars operated on the Bergen line all the time. Plus I have seen Metro North pulling NJT cars. So what's the relationship between these two?

Ok so, Metro-North is technically responsible for the Pascack Valley Line and the Port Jervis line from the NY border to Port Jervis and Spring Valley. But NJ Transit operates it for Metro-North. Metro-North in turn, has equipment that is sent to be used on those lines and NJ Transit uses them as needed. They have a couple of F40ph's and GP40's in Metro-North livery along with a number of coaches. These cars generally operate on the Main and Bergen County lines to Suffern and Port Jervis as well as the Pascack Valley Line to Spring Valley, NY.

That’s correct. The Metro North equipment is in the “pool” with NJT equipment, so the MNCR stuff is in regular cycles that circulate all over the Hoboken Division, appearing on the M&E and Boonton Lines as well as the “Erie” side of the division. It is common to see MNCR locomotives and cars in Port Morris, for example…
