Hi all, like some of you I started collecting trains over a few years and now I'm finally ready to start my layout! I've tried reading as much as I could in this forum, there's so much good info on the various control systems. Here is where I'm at:

  • I currently have mostly Legacy engines, a few MTH engines from 7-10 years ago and a few Atlas engines that have TMCC and some new ones that have DCS.
  • I want to be able to enjoy running all my current engines fully, unfortunately right now I can only run Legacy and TMCC
  • I have Legacy system right now with CAB 2

My questions:

  1. My understanding is I need the MTH DCS system to fully run my Atlas and MTH engines, but given the scarcity of the MTH DCS system, is there any other way to run my Atlas and MTH engines besides conventional? Is MTH even making this anymore?
  2. I'm thinking I will need to eventually upgrade to CAB 3 and also have the MTH DCS system installed? Is this accurate?

Thank you all!

1 Yes to operate the MTH and Atlas engines in command,  you will need a DCS system whether the new WTIU rumored to be out in September or a second hand TIU.

2 If you already have Legacy you do not have to get Base3 unless you want the added controllability it offers.  The TIU, either version, will connect, if you want to, to the Legacy or Base3 with some additional modules.  You'll be able to operate the Legacy and TMCC engines from the DCS but not the other way around.
