Question About Wiring Ross Switches

If you don't have a switch motor, it will work fine manually if you put some sort of manual throw on it or spike the points in one position or another.   Otherwise it probably won't stay in one position.

When you buy a switch from Ross without the motor it does not have the jumpers on the bottom that connect the rails.  Depending on the wiring of your layout you may need a jumper or another drop somewhere

Thanks gentlemen. The layout is a basic oval with sidings. The siding has a drop, and a drop at each end of the oval (4x8). Would I need to do some wiring or is it something that can be decided until it is in and running? Sounds like getting the machines to save the hassle might just be worth it...

I always buy the ones with the motor already on it; wasn't aware the rails were not connected on the underside.

I have decieded to go with a Ross switch. I will call them in the morning to order. 

I assume when each leg is isolated, it can't be powered by track power? 

Sorry for being a bit "slow"...never bought hi-rail/Ross switches. Always done the "plug and play" stuff! 

When you call Ross, Steve or Trey will explain everything to you.  I would buy a switch that has already been wired for power thru.  You can always isolate a small section of track if you want to wire for non-derailing.
